Join us for an exciting journey through one of Mexico’s most remarkable
natural landmarks, Copper Canyon. Enjoy glorious views during two
scenic rail journeys through magnificent canyon landscapes! Escorted by
Heritage Tours and Mayflower tour director.
Day 1: Flight to El Paso. Overnight in El Paso.
Day 2: Enter Mexico at Juarez. We will visit a Mennonite Community to
learn more about their way of life in the Chihuahua desert. We will enjoy an
included lunch at the Mennonite camp and visit a traditional Mennonite
store. Overnight in Creel.
Day 3: You will have a chance to explore Creel on your own before we board
the Copper Canyon train to El Fuerte. We will descend into the canyon from
the top of the Sierra Madres, taking in gorgeous views of cascading waterfalls
and
rugged cliff walls. Overnight in El Fuerte.
Day 4: Weather permitting we will enjoy a float trip down the Fuerte River,
followed by a walking tour of a 17th century cathedral. You will have some
free time to enjoy El Fuerte on your own before we spend the evening with the
fabulous Mexican Ballet Folklorico dancers. We will experience the
country’s rich cultural heritage as we witness performances of the traditional
dances. Overnight in El Fuerte.
Day 5: Today we again board the train headed for Barrancas to continue
our tour of the canyon. From sea level, we climb 8,000 feet, passing through
86 tunnels and cross 38 bridges along the way. Here at the rim we can continue
our exploration of the people and places of Chihuahua. Overnight in
Barrancas on the rim of the canyon.
Day 6: Leaving Barrancas by way of motorcoach we will travel to Chihuahua.
Overnight in Chihuahua.
Day 7: Today we will enjoy a sightseeing tour of Chihuahua, a thriving city
that once served as Mexico’s capital city. Chihuahua offers historical and
cultural
landmarks, including murals of Mexican history, a magnificent baroque cathedral,
restored colonial homes and the former home of Pancho Villa. Authentic
included Mexican dinner this evening. Overnight in Chihuahua.
Day 8: Today we will travel back to El Paso for our flight home.
