Braum's Tour, Tuttle OK

September 23-24, 2020

Day 1: Today we head south towards OKC. Our first stop is the American Banjo Museum. Enjoy a live performance on America’s instrument, the banjo, and lunch at the museum. Next, we stop at the Oklahoma City National Memorial with a special visit by either a survivor of the bombing or a first responder. It is a moving experience to hear firsthand some memories of that horrible day. A ranger presentation is given outside so we can understand the significance of the memorial. You also have some free time to explore the exhibits inside the wonderful museum. Overnight in the OKC area. (L)

Day 2: This morning we head to Tuttle for our tour at Braum’s processing plant and bakery. The Braum’s family got their start right here in Kansas! By 1975, the Braum’s dairy herd, the largest in Kansas, moved to Oklahoma. This “modern-day cattle drive” consisted of over 900 cows traveling down the highway in a convoy of semi-trucks to their new home at the Braum Farm in Tuttle, Oklahoma. Our first stop is at the visitor center for an excellent film about the farm and how the business has grown over the years. Next, we visit the plant. Braum’s built a new 240,000 square-foot bakery and warehouse distribution facility adjacent to the processing plant on the Tuttle Farm. See how the yummy creations go from milk to the products we all love. Following our tour, and of course ice cream samples, we depart for lunch. Ingrid’s, a German restaurant featured on the Food Network’s Diners, Drive-ins and Dives serves up some of their favorites. Then it’s time to return back to Kansas ready to visit the next Braum’s store we see. (B, L)
