gulf coast tour


Day 1:  We leave Kansas behind today and reach Forrest City AR area for our overnight stay.


Day 2: This morning we visit Graceland, home of the King of Rock & Roll, Elvis Presley. Stroll through the mansion where his family grew up, visit the famous Jungle Room, and take a peek inside 2 of his customized personal jets. For lunch we enjoy some famous Memphis BBQ. This afternoon step back into history at the Civil Rights Museum. Located at the historic Lorraine Motel, this museum gives a broad overview of the American Civil Rights Movement from slavery to the present. This evening we head south and overnight near Meridian MS. (B, L)


Day 3: Today we visit the USS Alabama, a retired battleship in Mobile AL. Explore the “Mighty A” who served in World War 2 in the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans. Also on site is the National Historic Landmark WWII submarine USS Drum, which is the oldest American submarine on public display. For lunch we eat like the sailors aboard the USS Alabama. This afternoon we visit the National Naval Aviation Museum, the oldest naval air station and home base for the world-famous Blue Angels. This evening enjoy free time walking the beach at our beach-front hotel in Pensacola Florida. (B, L)


Day 4: This morning we are in search of marine life on our Gulf of Mexico Dolphin cruise. Aboard, narrated guides help us spot and learn about dolphins and other marine life in the gulf. For lunch you can eat and stroll along the boardwalks of Pensacola. This afternoon we tour the beautiful Bellingrath Gardens. Walk through this Southern estate garden which includes award-winning roses. We make our way to Biloxi MS to stay for the next 2 nights. Dinner is included tonight. (B, D)


Day 5: We take a unique cruise along the protected waters of the shoreline to see the many creatures, including shrimp, that inhabit the Gulf. Our guide will explain the different species we pull up from the waters. For lunch, we have a special treat – a shrimp boil! This afternoon a step-on guide joins us for a tour of the city of Biloxi including the Biloxi Lighthouse. We end with a guided tour of the Historic Beauvoir Mansion, the former home of Jefferson Davis. (B, L)


Day 6: We travel to New Orleans today! The “Big Easy” is famed for its old world charm. We experience Southern hospitality, steamboat style, aboard the Steamboat Natchez for our live Jazz luncheon cruise. Later, you have free time to enjoy the French Quarter. (B, L)


Day 7: Louisiana builds some of the world's finest handmade Cajun accordions at Martin Accordions. We learn how the accordions are built for some of the world-famous musicians. As we start making our way towards home, we stop for one last southern meal before overnighting around the Dallas area. (B, L)


Day 8: What a memorable trip to the Gulf! Share memories with fellow travelers as we head for Kansas. (B)
