KANSAS CITY - NEW THEATRE
September 5-6, 2019

Day 1: Kansas City is our destination for the next two days. We start at the Crown Center for some time to shop and eat lunch. This afternoon, a local guide shows us the City of Fountains. Kansas City’s first fountains date back to the late 1800s for thirsty dogs, horses, and birds. Then, drinking fountains provided safe drinking water for their citizens. Kansas City’s love affair with fountains has flourished ever since. Today, we find some of those fountains on our guided tour. After checking into the hotel, our evening is at the New Theatre. Our dinner show is Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. (D)
Day 2: This morning we visit the headquarters for Hallmark. At the visitor center you can follow the timeline through Hallmark’s humble beginnings, to famous collaborations with U.S. presidents, world leaders, and famous artists. Later we visit Steamboat Arabia Museum. When the mighty Steamboat Arabia sank near Kansas City in 1856, she carried 200 tons of cargo. Recovered in 1988, our guided tour gives us a glimpse into the past with remarkably preserved clothes, tools, dishware, and much more. No visit to Kansas City is complete without some famous KC BBQ. Lunch is at Jack Stack Barbeque in their historic converted Freight House. (B, L)
