Day 1:  Departing Yoder this morning, we head to Leavenworth, Kansas. Upon arrival at Fort Leavenworth, we have an included lunch at the 12th Brick Café. This afternoon we visit the Frontier Army Museum, home to personal artifacts of General Henry Leavenworth, a Buffalo Soldiers exhibit, and other intriguing galleries. Next we get a guided tour of Fort Leavenworth, known as the “Best Hometown in the Army.” We hear stories of the Haunted Homes and buildings with a drive through the National Cemetery, established by President Abraham Lincloln in 1862. Tour also includes the Memorial Chapel, Oregon and Santa Fe Trails, and the Buffalo Solider Monument. We also visit the Richard Allen Cultural Center for a glimpse into the history and accomplishments of African-Americans. The Buffalo Soldiers will entertain us with a re-enactment and stories of their time serving in the 9th and 10th Cavalry Regiments. Dinner is included tonight before we overnight at a local hotel. (L, D)

Day 2: After breakfast, a step-on guide takes us around the City of Leavenworth, the “First City of Kansas.” Points of interest include Fred Harvey’s Home, Carroll Mansion, Buffalo Bill Cody, Union Depot, and a drive-by of the “Big House” (US Federal Peniteniary). Next we visit the C.W. Parker Carousel Museum and take a ride back in time on the carousel which is over 100 years old! We are in for a treat at lunch. Our catered meal is served by ladies dressed as “Harvey Girls” in the historic Union Depot. Relax as the “Possum Holler Four” quartet sings for our group. After lunch there is some leisure time for shopping downtown before driving back to Yoder. (B, L)
