Madison Bridges

Day 1: Departing Yoder this morning, we drive to Winterset IA where the movie “Bridges of Madison County” was filmed. After checking into our hotel for a two night stay, we visit the Bare Bison Ranch for a tour and a delicious catered dinner. A rancher takes us out to meet the bison up close while explaining all about these fascinating mammals. (D)

Day 2: After breakfast we arrive at the award-wining John Wayne Birthplace & Museum. It features the largest private collection of John Wayne memorabilia in existence. Next we tour the Iowa Quilt Museum which features exhibits of American quilts, vintage to modern. Take your time shopping and eating at the small shops and restaurants around the town square. This afternoon we depart on our tour of the Bridges of Madison County! We stop at covered bridges that were featured in both the novel and movie, including the Roseman Bridge, Cutler-Donahoe Bridge, and the Holliwell Bridge. Dinner is served at the Northside Café, where a scene from the movie was also filmed. We end the day visiting an apple orchard, Winterset Cidery for a tour and sampling of their hand-crafted hard apple cider. (B, D)

Day 3: This morning we start our day at the Pammel Park Coffee Company for a talk on roasting and of course samples. We hit the road for our drive back to Kansas with memories of the “Bridges of Madison County”. (B)
