Day 1: Leaving Kansas, we embark on our 4-day holiday tour to Omaha. This afternoon we visit the beautiful Lauritzen Gardens. Escape to a 100-acre urban oasis of beauty and tranquility as you discover this hidden sanctuary within the heart of Omaha. Be amazed by the spectacular floral display featuring a 20-foot-tall poinsettia tree, model trains, and other nostalgic decorations. Afterward, we check into our hotel for our 3-night stay. Tonight we celebrate Christmas in Germany. Enjoy a holiday program of dancing, singing, and food. Listen to holiday favorites by the men’s choir, shop for German crafts, and sing-along with “Silent Night.” (L, D)
Day 2: Today we start with a presentation at the National Park Visitor Center. Our step-on guide joins us for a city tour of Omaha. Learn more about the insights and history of this thriving metropolis located on the Missouri River. Today, experience an Irish Christmas at Father Flanagan’s Boys Town. While ministering to the homeless on the streets of Omaha, Father Edward Joseph Flanagan developed a lifelong interest in young people. When Father Flanagan purchased the Overlook Farm in 1921, it became the new, permanent site of Boys Town. During our visit, we get an unforgettable glimpse into the history of an organization that has given new hope to so many at-risk children over the past 100 years. Lunch is served at the Boys Town Café. This afternoon we visit the Hot Shops for a glass-blowing demonstration and have time for browsing or shopping. Tonight we celebrate the season with a Madrigal Christmas Feaste. Announced by fanfares and accompanied by music, mirth, and traditions, this multi-course meal is designed to delight you. From the rousing Wassail Toasts to the last spoonful of bread pudding and the final fading melody of the Madrigal Syngers’ performance, you will be enchanted and filled with the spirit of Christmas. Day 3: Today it’s Christmas Ukrainian Style. Enjoy an entertaining presentation about Ukrainian linens and their connection to history, customs, and traditions. Next, visit St John’s Greek Orthodox Church for Greek Holiday entertainment and lunch. Tour the beautiful Byzantine-style building with gold décor and traditional icons. This afternoon we are transported to Scotland by touring Joslyn Castle. This 30-room stone mansion resembles a traditional Scottish castle. Next, we take a behind-the-scenes tour of the Omaha Community Playhouse. For dinner, revisit Ireland with dinner and live music at an Irish pub. Then enjoy the classic Christmas Carol by Dickens at the playhouse. Experience Omaha’s favorite holiday tradition as Ebenezer Scrooge takes us on a life-changing journey filled with lovely costumes, exquisite music, beautifully crafted sets, and special effects second to none.
