Alaska Winter, Aurora, 100th Iditarod

Day 1: This morning we depart Wichita for our flight to Fairbanks. We will check in for our night stay in Fairbanks.

Day 2: This morning we start with a welcome breakfast before we visit Trail Breaker Kennel for some one-on-one time with dogs, experiencing mushing rides and mushers themselves. Next, we depart Fairbanks for our two-night stay at the Borealis Basecamp in your own private domes, sleeping under the northern lights, a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Prepare to snuggle into the beautiful accommodations. (B, L, D)

Day 3: Relax and enjoy your day at the Borealis Base Camp and in Alaska’s outdoors. Breakfast, lunch, and dinner are all held in the main building. We have time to add additional activities to fill the day or choose to relax. Some of the activities might include flightseeing, dog mushing, and snow machines. While most are included, there may be an upcharge for some of the items. Make sure to stay up late for another perfect Aurora viewing experience. (B, L, D)

Day 4: Enjoy a relaxing morning and departure from Borealis Basecamp returning to Fairbanks for one more overnight. Lunch awaits at a local favorite in Fairbanks. In the afternoon try your hand at curling followed by the Fairbanks Ice Museum Exhibit. (B, L)

Day 5: Following an early breakfast, we depart Fairbanks for Anchorage. We check into the downtown hotel, the Hotel Captain Cook for the next 4 evenings. Tonight, we visit the infamous Musher’s Banquet which is deemed the official start of the Iditarod activities. You have a chance to meet the mushers and witness the bib draw process for placement in the 100th Anniversary of The Iditarod. (B, L, D)

Day 6: Today is at your leisure. Activities such as the Knik Glacier flight, brewery tour, Mount Alyeska skiing, or spa will be available for guests to choose from. Or simply stay in downtown Anchorage for some shopping and dining at the many restaurants. Tonight, join an Iditarod Musher for a private cocktail reception and question and answer session on preparing for the Iditarod Race, life on the trail, and what it takes to be successful. (B, D)

Day 7: This morning we attend the ceremonial start of the Iditarod in downtown Anchorage where you are free to walk among the mushing teams and find your favorite musher. You have plenty of time to view the dog teams before the 10am ceremonial start. Warm up with a cozy lunch and the remainder of the day is yours to take in activities around Anchorage. (B, L)

Day 8: After breakfast, we travel to Willow to witness the official start of The Iditarod. Prepared for the outdoors as you experience the excitement firsthand. En route back to Anchorage, visit the Musk Ox Farm. A farewell dinner awaits upon returning to Anchorage. (B, L, D)

Day 9: This morning we catch our flight home remembering the adventures of winter in Alaska and highlighting the 100th Anniversary of such a phenomenal athletic event and history in Alaska. (B)
