Each spring, the Sandhill cranes return to the Platte River. These large birds have made their migration to Nebraska and the Platte River for thousands of years. It's a natural wonder experienced nowhere else on earth. We have two opportunities to witness the immense annual migration with a local guide. Our two-day tour includes all meals, hotel, admissions, and guide fees.
Day 1: Today we head north to Grand Island, Nebraska. After lunch, we arrive at the Crane Trust Nature & Visitor Center to pick up a local step-on guide. Experience the sights and sounds of over a half-million Sandhill Cranes gathering along the Platte River. During the day, the cranes are in the fields eating, “fueling up” to continue their journey north. We get off the motorcoach and view these large, majestic birds. This evening enjoy dinner and live entertainment. (L, D)
Day 2: This morning we get up early to see the cranes again at sunrise! We arrive at the Rowe Sanctuary on the Platte River to meet our guide and head to the viewing blinds. Sunrise is a prime viewing time on the river. As the day breaks, the sandhill cranes “liftoff” from their river roost for the fields. Next, we visit Stuhr Museum for a guided tour of the Wings Over The Platte exhibit. Then you have a chance to step back in time and explore how the early pioneers lived. After lunch, we drive back to Yoder. As we make our way back, we leave with memories of the natural spectacle of the majestic Sandhill Cranes. (B, L)
