Day 1: With the Deep South and Georgia on our minds, we board our coach this morning anticipating the experiences that await us. We’ll settle into our coach and enjoy the passing miles before reaching the eastern Arkansas area for our first night out.

Day 2: As we progress across the states, we will stop in Selma, AL. This afternoon we will tour Selma and some of the famous Civil Rights landmarks that represented a pivotal point in Voting Rights. (B)

Day 3: Today we reach the tiny town of Plains, GA. The Jimmy Carter National Historic Park highlights the areas of town where Carter left his stamp. We start at Plains High School, the visitor center, where he and his wife Rosalynn graduated. The Plains Train Depot is the oldest building in Plains (constructed in 1888) and served as Carter’s campaign headquarters. During his run, approximately 10,000 people a day visited Plains. (B, L)

Day 4: Get your sightseeing brain ready for a full day on Jekyll Island. We start the day with a trolley tour of the area to hear stories of the legendary history of this Georgia barrier island. Later, we visit the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, a sea turtle education and rehabilitation facility. The Center offers the public a chance to learn about sea turtles and see rehabilitation in action with a host of interactive exhibits and experiences. After lunch, we join a fully narrated dolphin/sightseeing tour from the Jekyll Wharf traveling the scenic waterways of beautiful Jekyll Island to observe the magnificent bottlenose dolphins feeding, playing, or simply cruising about in their natural habitat while you learn about their social behavior and feeding habits. Tonight, we make it to Savannah where we will reside for the next four nights. (B, D)

Day 5: This morning’s visit will be to Historic Savannah. From the moment that first step is taken into historic Savannah, a consciousness of quiet and tranquility begins to take over. Beautifully landscaped squares throughout the historic district are kept cool by the shade offered by graceful old oaks that also frame the monuments honoring Savannah’s heroes. Cobblestones still pave the streets. It’s a morning to be remembered as we tour with our local narrating guide, captivating Savannah. This afternoon we see a glimpse of Savannah the way General Edward Oglethorpe saw it in 1733. Our narrated cruise on the Savannah River will provide history, including the founding of Savannah and its present-day importance as an industrial port. Following our cruise, we will embark upon the Prohibition Museum, uncovering the secrets of the speakeasies and learning the history of bootlegging. (B, L)

Day 6: This morning we continue exploring Savannaha with a visit to Andrew Low House, one of the historic homes by Lafayette Square. After lunch, we meet our Storyteller/Tour Guide at Forsyth Park listening to stories and fun facts about the park and the Fountain. Next, we learn about movies filmed in Savannah and books written about the City. The rest of the day is yours to explore this amazing southern city. (B, L)

Day 7: Isolated on South Carolina's Sea Islands for generations, the Gullah Geechee preserved more of their heritage than any other communities in the United States. A local step-on guide provides us with a true cultural experience of the Gullah People and the South Carolina Sea Islands. "Cum jine we fa we kno dis ya Gullah ting!" TRANSLATION: "Come join us, we know Gullah!" (B, L)

Day 8: Vidalia onions from Vidalia GA is going to be a sweet treat on our area tour. This onion was discovered when a Tombs County Farmer found that his onion crop was sweet rather than hot, due to the combination of elements in the soil and climate. Then on to Macon where we visit the Harriet Tubman Museum. This evening we make our way to Atlanta. (B)

Day 9: We wake to the morning buzz of Atlanta and pick up a local guide for a city tour. Explore the city's rich history and vibrant culture, known for its role in the Civil War, making it a significant historical site. Later, we drive to Stone Mountain outside of Atlanta. This natural wonder stands out as the largest exposed piece of granite in the world. You see confederate leaders carved into the mountainside, the largest bas-relief sculpture in the world. We summit the mountain on the iconic Summit Skyride. (B)

Day 10: This morning we visit the Village of Helen, an old-world Bavarian Village. Nestled in the Blue Ridge Mountains, it is a re-creation of a European alpine village. There will be time for lunch and some shopping in the Village before starting our way west. (B)

Day 11: This morning it is time to say goodbye to our Georgia on My Mind experience as we head toward home. We travel west of St. Louis for our last night. (B, L)

Day 12: Today we return to Yoder, reminiscing about the fun, beauty, and experiences we enjoyed in Georgia! (B)
